Golf Daddy vs 18Birdies
18Birdies is a good app, and it has been around longer than we have. This is where each one fits, so you download the right one for the golf you actually play.
What 18Birdies is built for
18Birdies is one of the biggest golf apps in the world, with a generous free GPS and scorecard and a premium tier built around AI swing analysis, Plays-Like distances and coaching content. It has betting games and a social feed, though the app is US-centric in its handicap and content.
On the App Store 18Birdies lists itself as “18Birdies: Golf GPS Tracker” with the subtitle “Range Finder, Handicap, Score” (18birdies.com, checked 2026-10-02).
Where 18Birdies is strong
- A free GPS rangefinder and scorecard that cover most on-course needs.
- AI swing analysis and a large library of coaching content.
- A huge community and plenty of side games.
Where Golf Daddy is different
- Made for UK golf: World Handicap System maths, Stableford and match play first, and formats like Greensomes, Texas Scramble and Split Sixes that UK societies actually play.
- One shared scorecard for the whole group, including guests who have not downloaded anything.
- A handicap that follows the WHS best-8-of-20 method on the free plan, with course handicap worked out per tee from slope and rating.
- A smaller, quieter app with no feed to scroll past: open it, pick a format, tee off.
Choose 18Birdies if
You want AI feedback on your swing and a big library of lessons, or you play in the United States and want US-style handicap tracking.
Choose Golf Daddy if
You play social and society golf in the UK, you want Stableford and match play done properly with the right stroke allowances, and your group wants a live leaderboard with a money game on it.
Common questions
Is Golf Daddy free like 18Birdies?
Yes. Golf Daddy is free to download on iPhone and Android, with live scoring, UK GPS, formats and a Handicap Index on the free plan. Pro adds courses worldwide, the AI Golf Coach and deeper stats.
Does Golf Daddy analyse my swing?
No. Golf Daddy's AI Golf Coach reads your rounds (scores, putts, tee shots and trouble shots) and tells you where the shots are going, rather than analysing video of your swing.
Which is better for a fourball in the UK?
Golf Daddy is built around the fourball: one card for the group, guests, better-ball allowances, Skins, Nassau and Wolf, and the Watch app for your yardage. 18Birdies is a stronger choice for solo improvement tools.
18Birdies changes its features and pricing regularly, so check its own site for what it includes today. Golf Daddy claims here are checked against the app.
