Common questions

How is a course handicap calculated?

Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Rating − Par), rounded to the nearest whole number. The slope scales your index to the tees' difficulty for a bogey golfer; the rating minus par adjusts for how hard the course is for a scratch golfer.

What is the difference between a course handicap and a playing handicap?

Your course handicap is the full number of shots for the tees. Your playing handicap applies the format's allowance to it: 95% for individual stroke play and Stableford in WHS competitions, 85% for Four Ball stroke play, 90% for Four Ball match play. In social golf most groups just use the course handicap.

Where do I find slope and course rating?

They are printed on the scorecard and the tee plaque for each set of tees. You can also look up thousands of UK clubs in the Golf Daddy course directory.

Which holes do I get my shots on?

On the holes with the lowest stroke index. With a course handicap of 21 you get one shot on every hole and a second on stroke index 1, 2 and 3.
